EUROPEAN STANDARD EN 1154

The EN1154 standard classifies door closers into 7 sizes, according door weight and width. For each size, the European standard settles demanding levels of performance for various aspects:

1. The closing torque: Measured in Nm (Newton x meter). A minimum and maximum is requested for each size. This translates into closing capacity or power.
   
2. The efficiency: Closing torque divided by opening torque expressed as a percentage. A high value of efficiency, as the EN1154 standard demands, means that the door will not feel difficult to open even when a high power closer is installed.
   
3. The stability of speed adjustments when temperature changes occur and after intense use has been done.
   
4. The durability against intensive use: power, efficiency and adjustments stability must keep at high performance levels after 500,000 complete cycles of door opening and closing controlled by the door closer.

Installing an EN1154 certified closer means choosing convenience, reliability and long life operation. In case of fire doors, this is not just a good choice but also a must requested in most of European countries.
